Frequently Asked Questions
What monthly fees are included for merchant services?
These fees include 24/7 support, reporting, analytics, risk and fraud monitoring, and could include payment gateway access or dispute resolution.
How long will it be before I can start accepting card payments?
This depends on the size of your business and number of locations. You can also speed up the process if you choose a mobile processing app as opposed to a traditional POS system.
How does the process work for making a credit or debit card payment?
Customer places an order with the merchant.
Merchant submits the order/transaction via their payment/point-of-sale system.
The system forwards the payment authorization request to the card-issuing bank to verify the customer’s card account and funds availability.
The authorization or decline response is returned via the system to the merchant. This process typically averages around three seconds.
Upon receipt of the payment authorization, the merchant fulfills the customer's order.
Merchant then "settles the batch" of transactions through their POS system. The POS system requests from the merchant's processor to get a group or "batch" of authorized settled transactions. The processor credits the funds to the merchant's account. POS systems are set up to automatically batch transactions each day. They can also be set for manual batching, which requires the merchant to close their batch of transactions on a regular basis.
Axos Bank deposits transaction funds into the merchant's deposit account.
What is the cost of payment processing?
The cost of processing credit and debit cards varies greatly. You will likely be charged fees by the card networks, including interchange fees and processing fees. Read through the fees and ask questions before signing a contract with the card network. You could even negotiate a better price.
